Our site is located to the rear of Derwenthaugh Industrial Estate with access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Perfect for the surrounding area of Gateshead, Newcastle and easily accessible from the Metro Centre.

Our newest storage facility at Gateshead, Metro Centre (and all of our storage locations) is flexible, our aim is to make our storage suit our customers needs.
If you're looking for short-term storage in Gateshead to get you out of a tight spot - our minimum storage period is just 1 week, ideal for temporary storage when you need it most.
We also offer a great long-term storage solution, we have no maximum duration, we invoice our customers monthly - so provided you keep paying your bill, we're happy to continue your storage for as long as you need it.
You can also end your storage whenever you need to, we refund for any unused days, so you don't need to leave at the end of a month.
Our Gateshead, Metro Centre site is our most recent to be opened and we are continuing to increase the number of stores on site, to offer additional storage for both personal use and businesses.
When storing at our Gateshead, Metro Centre storage facility you can gain access to your items in storage when you need to with 24 hour access across 7 days a week, using the electronic fob access gates, meaning you can come and go when you need to; to your storage container. Located around the Gateshead site is our security fence that creates a perimeter aroundour self-storage compound. Around the storage site we have 24 hour CCTV security cameras monitoring activity at multiple points.
Also, we offer a range of packaging that can be purchased and provided from our site managers when collecting the key to your storage container at our Gateshead site.

How do I get to the Gateshead storage site from nearby roads?
From the A1 North or South:
• Exit the A1(M) at Junction 73 (Blaydon / Consett / A694).
• Follow signs for A694 / Derwenthaugh Industrial Estate.
• At the roundabout, take the exit onto A694 Derwenthaugh Road, heading toward Swalwell.
• Continue straight, and take a left turn into Derwenthaugh Industrial Estate.
• Follow the road through the estate toward the rear—look out for signs for U Hold The Key.
From Metrocentre Retail Park:
• Exit the Metrocentre complex onto Hollinside Road, joining the A694 toward Swalwell
• Derwenthaugh Industrial Estate is located just a couple of minutes down the road on your right-hand side.

How do I find the Gateshead (Metro Centre) self-storage site?
We are located at the rear of the Derwenthaugh Industrial Estate in Gateshead once you arrive at the estate, follow the one way system all the way to the back of the site, where you will see our large U Hold The Key sign and our green containers.

Which surrounding areas is the Gateshead location suitable for?
Our site at Gateshead is located just off the A1, the closest towns and villages to our site are Blaydon, Swalwell, Winlaton and Whickham. Travelling time from any of these locations will be approximately 5-10 minutes by car (depending on traffic).
If you live or work in Blaydon and need some additional storage, we're right on your doorstep (or as close as we can be).
With our location being just off the A1 (junction 73), our self storage site is also a great option for customers slightly further away. For example, the site is also relatively close to Team Valley, travelling distace is approximately 6 miles northbound along the Western Bypass (travelling time will vary depending on the traffic!).
PRICES | Where can I find the prices for the storage containers?
Note that prices vary per container size and location. You can find the latest prices by using the booking tool. Note that we charge a £25 refundable key deposit.
SIZES | How do I choose the right sized storage for me?
You can find our size and their ideal uses on our sizes page. Most people hire the Large 20 foot container, but we have multiple options available.
SECURITY | What security measures do you have per site and container?
All our sites are fitted with CCTV, fencing, gated access and lighting. On top of that, we provide a free padlock for your individual store.
CLEAN AND DRY CONTAINERS | Are your containers clean and is there a chance of condensation?
We always provide cleaned out containers for our customers. Our containers are weather proof and are fitted with ventilation rosters. If your belongings are dry, there is no chance for condensation. However, if you introduce water (e.g. through a washing machine that still has water in its tubes) there is a chance for condensation. To combat this, we offer absorpoles.
OPENING HOURS | When can I access my storage site and container?
We offer 24/7 access, 365 days of the year (except our Middlesbrough site where we offer access 7am-7pm, 7 days a week).
BUSINESS | Can I store business inventory?
Absolutely! As a matter of fact, a large part of our customers are business owners.
ENTRANCE | How do I gain access to the storage site and my container?
At your Key Pickup meeting, you’ll receive the FOB to open the entrance gate. You’ll also receive a free padlock to lock up your container.
ACCESSIBILITY | Can I drive up to my container?
Yes, all storage containers have ground level access and you can drive up to your container.
BOOKING | How do I book self-storage with U Hold The Key?

BOOKING REQUIREMENT | What do I need to provide when I book?
In line with industry standards, we require photo ID (driving license or passport) and confirmation of your current address dated within the last 3 months (e.g. a utility bill or bank statement).
PAYMENT OPTIONS | How do I pay?
Our standard payment method for storage is by direct debit.
However, you can also make payments on our website through our ‘manage my store’ page - using either by Stripe Card Payment or PayPal.
Alternatively, you can drop us a call on 0800 389 43 19 and our friendly team can take a payment over the phone.
MINIMUM HIRE PERIOD AND NOTICE PERIOD | What are they?
The minimum hire period is one week. You can cancel any day you want.
