Our South Shields self-storage facility is our most recent site we have opened in the North East. The site is located at the end of Wilson Street behind traders Toolstation and Tile Giant; it is an ideal storage location for trades people needing a secure storage container for stock and equipment or use as a HUB for employees.

Along with business use, the storage site offers a secure space for a wide spectrum of uses; covering you for when you are moving house whether you are moving into the South Shields area or away from South Tyneside. Having a space for the renovation job you have been putting off due to not having the room to do so, we are here for you with a range of sizes to suit your level of storage you require.

Our storage at South Shields (and all of our storage locations) is flexible, our aim is to make our storage suit our customers needs.

If you're looking for short-term storage in South Shields to get you out of a tight spot - our minimum storage period is just 1 week, ideal for temporary storage when you need it most.

We also offer a great long-term storage solution, we have no maximum duration, we invoice our customers monthly - so provided you keep paying your bill, we're happy to continue your storage for as long as you need it.

You can also end your storage whenever you need to, we refund for any unused days, so you don't need to leave at the end of a month.

Our storage facility in South Shields offers flexible and secure storage solutions, with 24/7 access to your items within your designated container.     Mini

    A 6ft cube – 6ft x 6ft (and 6ft high)

    These stores all have double door access so are great for motorbike storage or anything else that needs a compact secure space.

    Compact

    5ft x 7ft (and 8ft high)

    About the size of a large garden shed – but a lot more secure. A good size for the bits that are over spilling in the spare room or if the kids have moved out or if you’re starting a new business and need some where to keep your tools or filing.

    Handy

    8ft x 7ft 6” (and 7ft 4” High)

    A bit bigger than a compact. We would recommend this size for a move from a 1 bedroomed flat but also a great size for businesses for archive storage or if you want to get your garage or spare room back.

    Standard

    10ft x 8ft (and 8ft high)

    Some of our standard containers have double doors and some have personnel doors. To visualise this space, think of a spare room size. It’s a good sized space again for both businesses and house moves.

    Large

    20ft x 8ft (and 8ft high)

    This is the most popular size store we have and we describe this space as the equivalent of a good sized single garage although I wish my garage was that big! This size is big enough for most 3 bedroomed house moves. All of our large containers have double door access so are ideal for storing your car or boat. It’s a great space for business storage and if you’re looking for archive storage we can shelve it out for you for a small extra charge. Ask us for more information.

    40ft x 8ft (and 8ft high)

    For when you have lots to store. This is great storage for businesses that don’t want the added cost of taking on a warehouse or business premises but still have lots to store.

    SIZES | How do I choose the right sized storage for me?

    You can find our size and their ideal uses on our sizes page. Most people hire the Large 20 foot container, but we have multiple options available.

    SECURITY | What security measures do you have per site and container?

    All our sites are fitted with CCTV, fencing, gated access and lighting. On top of that, we provide a free padlock for your individual store.

    CLEAN AND DRY CONTAINERS | Are your containers clean and is there a chance of condensation?

    We always provide cleaned out containers for our customers. Our containers are weather proof and are fitted with ventilation rosters. If your belongings are dry, there is no chance for condensation. However, if you introduce water (e.g. through a washing machine that still has water in its tubes) there is a chance for condensation. To combat this, we offer absorpoles.

    OPENING HOURS | When can I access my storage site and container?

    We offer 24/7 access, 365 days of the year (except our Middlesbrough site where we offer access 7am-7pm, 7 days a week).

    BUSINESS | Can I store business inventory?

    Absolutely! As a matter of fact, a large part of our customers are business owners.

    ENTRANCE | How do I gain access to the storage site and my container?

    At your Key Pickup meeting, you’ll receive the FOB to open the entrance gate. You’ll also receive a free padlock to lock up your container.

    ACCESSIBILITY | Can I drive up to my container?

    Yes, all storage containers have ground level access and you can drive up to your container.

    BOOKING | How do I book self-storage with U Hold The Key?

    The quickest and easiest way to book self storage is through our online booking tool.

    BOOKING REQUIREMENT | What do I need to provide when I book?

    In line with industry standards, we require photo ID (driving license or passport) and confirmation of your current address dated within the last 3 months (e.g. a utility bill or bank statement).

    PAYMENT OPTIONS | How do I pay?

    Our standard payment method for storage is by direct debit.

    However, you can also make payments on our website through our ‘manage my store’ page - using either by Stripe Card Payment or PayPal.

    Alternatively, you can drop us a call on 0800 389 43 19 and our friendly team can take a payment over the phone.

    MINIMUM HIRE PERIOD AND NOTICE PERIOD | What are they?

    The minimum hire period is one week. You can cancel any day you want.
